This week we are reading Duck on a Bike which is part of our Storybook Summer feature. The craft I have listed on Thursday is the one we chose to highlight in our craft series.
If drawing perfect circles free hand is not your thing then use a few kitchen helpers for this project. Using a bowl and a cup is nice since there are automatically three to four different sized circles you can trace on to your paper.
Duck Craft Materials
- Yellow Paper (we used two different colors of yellow, but you can use just one color)
- Glue
- A scrap of orange paper or white paper colored orange on both sides
- White paper with eyes drawn on or google eyes
- A bowl and cup from the kitchen
- Pencil
Create a Duck Craft
Step 1: Trace the bigger part of the bowl on to the yellow paper
Step 2: Turn the bowl over and trace the smaller part of the bowl on to the yellow paper
Step 3: Trace one end (your choice) of the cup on to the paper and cut this circle in half
Step 4: Glue the half circle to the big circle to form a duck’s wing.
Step 5: Glue eyes on to the smallest circle.
Step 6: Make a small orange square and fold diagonally for the beak. Glue under the eyes on the smallest circle
Step 7: Glue the head to the body
Step 8: Cut two legs out of the orange paper and glue to the bottom of the body
Tada!!! Remember, it is not about the picture perfect finished project. The process of being creative and assembling the pieces is a huge accomplishment. The duck on the left was done by my 2.5-year-old and the duck on the right was done by my almost-4-year-old.
